OR Consulting Engineers served as low-carbon building services and acoustic engineers for the restoration and refurbishment of the Grade II listed Royal Arsenal Gatehouse in The Royal Borough of Greenwich. This iconic gateway will be carefully reimagined to accommodate new office spaces, public areas, and start-up hubs.
Our design strategy was rooted in sustainability and sensitivity to the building’s heritage, focusing on:
- Re-using and adapting the existing building fabric to minimize embodied carbon during construction.
- Incorporating passive ventilation and cooling strategies to maintain comfort with minimal energy consumption.
- Integrating low-energy lighting and intelligent controls to optimize efficiency.
- Designing seamless security, access control, and CCTV installations that respect the historic architecture.
- Improving the energy efficiency of core building systems (heating, lighting, and hot water services) without compromising the building’s character.
- Ensuring full adherence to Building Regulations Part L for energy performance.
