Northbury Primary School
ORC delivered the MEP, Acoustics and Sustainability design for a new SEND teaching facility at Northbury Primary School. Our approach brought together sustainability, performance, and user-focused design to deliver a simple, efficient, and future-ready building.
The scheme created a highly serviced, all-electric learning environment focused on comfort, wellbeing, and long-term efficiency.
The low-carbon strategy was central to the design, with Air Source Heat Pumps providing heating, cooling, and hot water, supported by roof-mounted photovoltaic panels to reduce operational energy demand.
Internal environmental quality was a key driver, particularly for SEND users. Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) provides consistent fresh air, while CO2 monitoring and careful acoustic design helps create a calm and comfortable learning environment.
The building services integrate efficient heating and cooling systems, low-flow public health design, and a robust electrical infrastructure with future capacity. Specialist systems, including induction loops, accessible alarms, and integrated security, support inclusivity and day-to-day operation.
