London 2012 Olympic Beach Volleyball Stadium

OR Consulting &emdash; London 2012 Olympic Beach Volleyball Stadium

The 15,000 seat Olympic Beach Volleyball Stadium  housed a broadcast center below the stands. Constructing such a stadium in six week required 12 months of intricate design and planning.

OR Consulting acted as the environmental engineers and building regulations compliance consultants for the development of the temporary 2012 Olympic Beach Volleyball stadium, the Horse Guards Parade road cycling and marathon venue. These temporary facilities were constructed to high safety standards in a very short period of time. The challenge of this fast track project was to identify and design safety solutions that would meet the stringent standards of a permanent major sporting venue. Examples of this approach included the resilient design of temporary generators to allow floodlights to be used for emergency lighting and maintain power to evacuation lifts. The 15,000 seat Olympic Beach Volleyball stadium also housed a press centre and broadcast studio. This design of the broadcast center presented challenging environmental, fire safety and resilience issues. OR Consulting designed the building services installations and the fire performance of the construction to overcome these challenges.
