The Holburne Museum is a Grade I listed building in Bath, located within a conservation area and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Following a master plan feasibility study, this project phase to repurposed lower ground storage areas as a new gallery and exhibition space to display Renaissance treasures from the Schroder family collection. Additionally a first floor office was converted to a new portrait gallery.

OR Consulting to provided building services design for the temperature and humidity environmental control systems and lighting design of way finding and the first floor gallery space.

The design included:

  • Input to a site wide masterplan to extend the gallery and catering accommodation, replicating the historic supper box accommodation.
  • Implementing a sustainable design approach to reduce carbon emission across the site.
  • Implementing low carbon technologies.
  • Integrating the proposals with the extension and refurbishment works previously carried out.
  • Extending the existing heating and cooling systems to provide close control to facilitate the display of the loaned exhibits.
  • Remaining sensitive to the Grade I listed architecture.
