OR Consulting — Conde Nast College of Fashion and Design

OR Consulting were appointed as environmental engineers for the low-carbon redevelopment of the Condé Nast College of Fashion and Design. Located on the site of the former St Martin’s School of Art, the building underwent extensive remodelling and façade replacement to transform it into a state-of-the-art facility for fashion and design education.

The low-carbon design focused on optimising the performance of the building fabric while maintaining the ability to naturally ventilate the spaces, despite the challenging external acoustic environment of central London.

In addition to the environmental strategy, OR Consulting provided expert acoustic design in line with Building Bulletin 93, ensuring a quiet, comfortable environment for learning amidst the bustle of London’s busy West End.

Sustainability Achievements:

  • Air source heat pumps for energy-efficient heating and cooling.
  • Heat recovery ventilation to improve indoor air quality while minimising energy use.
  • Energy-efficient lighting and lighting controls to reduce energy consumption and lower operational costs.
  • The result is a 50% reduction in carbon emissions from the existing building.
