Brentwood Boarding House
OR Consulting worked as client side MEP consultants for the delivery of Brentwood Schools new boarding house that sets a benchmark for contemporary school accommodation.
After years of careful planning, the building provides 122 single en-suite bedrooms arranged across the upper floors, offering high quality, university-style living designed with student comfort in mind.
Sustainability has been central to the design, with a centralised heat store, energy-efficient heat pumps and EV charging infrastructure incorporated from the outset. The scheme has also achieved a BREEAM rating, reflecting a strong commitment to long-term environmental performance.
While the school’s history stretches back almost 500 years, this project demonstrates a continued willingness to invest in forward-looking facilities. The fully accessible building is conceived as a home away from home, arranged into three key zones: dedicated houses for girls and boys, and a shared central hub. This hub brings together new dining, social and recreational spaces, opening onto an outdoor courtyard and landscaped areas designed for informal gathering. At the heart of the development is a new Sixth Form Café, operated by award-winning UK café brand Benugo, creating a welcoming focal point and further strengthening the sense of community.
