The occupational therapy spaces were designed to provide a respite from the challenges of treatment for the patients and their families.
OR Consulting acted as M&E services consultants for the design and implementation of two innovative occupational therapy spaces at the new Royal London Children’s Hospital in Whitechapel. These spaces were conceived as a respite for patients and their families, offering therapeutic environments to help alleviate the stresses of hospital treatment.
The indoor play space was designed to create an immersive, engaging environment that incorporates cutting-edge audiovisual technologies, enabling patients and their families to enjoy meaningful recreation time together in a safe and stimulating setting. The outdoor space, situated on the roof, includes a unique sound installation, an observatory platform, as well as gardening and art therapy spaces, providing a holistic approach to recovery.
OR Consulting’s role was to adapt existing service installations to support the creative goals of the project, as well as to design standalone solutions for lighting, fire alarms, irrigation, and environmental controls, ensuring that the spaces are functional, energy-efficient, and aligned with the therapeutic intent of the design.
