OR Consulting Engineers collaborated closely with the project architect to deliver the lighting design for the new theatre bar and associated front-of-house spaces at the Grade II listed Phoenix Theatre on Charing Cross Road.
The wider scheme reconfigured former retail units to create a theatre bar, merchandising lounge and enhanced customer facilities, improving the venue’s pre and post show experience while supporting the theatre’s long-term viability.
Our role focused on the theatre bar, ancillary areas including WCs and circulation routes, and the lighting integrated within the new external canopy. Working collaboratively, we translated the architect’s design intent into a practical solution that balanced technical performance, budget constraints, and the sensitivities of a historic setting.
The result is a coordinated lighting scheme that enhances arrival and dwell spaces, strengthens the theatre’s street presence, and contributes to a welcoming, contemporary audience experience.
