1 St James’s

OR Consulting Engineers acted as building services and environmental engineers for the refurbishment of the 140 year old Grade II listed 1a St James’s Street in London for Berry Bros. & Rudd.

Berry Bros. & Rudd recently inaugurated its latest spirits boutique, underlining its esteemed reputation for curating premium wines and liquors. This expansion epitomizes the brand’s ongoing dedication to providing discerning clientele with exceptional libations.

The project approach sought to:

  • Provide an adaptive and effective ventilation, heating and cooling system to serve the upper retail units and the lower consultation spaces.
  • Conceal and integrate visible components within architectural details.
  • Introduce heat recovery to reduce space heating and cooling requirements
  • Interface communication and life safety systems with the central systems serving adjacent space.
  • Design passive measures including branded external awnings to reduce cooling loads and plant sizes.
  • Repurpose an internal mezzanine as plant spaces due to the constrained nature of the site.
  • Design the electrical systems to offer flexibility of use within the space, switching between retain and consultation and event use.
